Rob Ryan for Haiti

The most excellent Rob Ryan has designed a new limited edition print (200 copies)to raise money for Haiti. Each print is £200 and all the profit made after Etsy and Paypal charges will go to Haiti (£186 per print). The aim is to raise a massive £37,200!

Each print measures 54.3 cm wide by 39cm high, printed using water based inks onto Heritage Woodfree 315gsm paper which measures 68.5cm wide by 51cm high

Girls Who Draw

Roll up, roll up! This year's Girls Who Draw' postcard book is out now and the lovely ladies very kindly asked me to be involved in this year's 'Magic' issue. Apologies for the awful photos, they really don't do it justice.
Featuring work from Karoline Rerrie, Kate Hindley (who also designed the amazing front cover), Anke Weckmann, Gemma Correll, Currentstate, Mary Kilvert, Yee Ting Kuit, Sarah Ray, Beth Morrison, Ruth Green and myself.

My Dad has a new collection of poetry out today! His poems are extraordinary and I find them endlessly inspiring. I have to admit I been shamelessly plundering Dad's poems for ideas for many years and I know they will keep me well stocked up for the rest of my days. One line that I always come back to in his poem 'Fishermen' spurs me on to keep on plugging away..."and everything that matters is just about to happen".

My very talented and amazing friend Mark Sperring has a new picture book out. Mark first showed 'Green' to me about 6 years ago and I absolutely loved it - a very funny, witty and ever so slightly dark story of sibling rivalry. Of all of Mark's many, many stories it has remained my number one over the years so I was very honoured indeed when he dedicated the book (wonderfully illustrated by Leo Timmers)to me! I finished a big painting today that I have been working on sporadically for 9 months...it's been a bit of a labour of love! This is one of the many scrappy bits of paper I have colour tested on - I always like these weird little pictures!

Say it with snails!

When I was listening to Adam and Joe on BBC 6 some time last year they read a poem written by a listener when she was a child called ' Say it with snails' - I thought was the best thing ever....so I made some brooches in honour of her. They are lazer cut acrylic on screen-printed card backs. I have some in stock at the Here Shop in Bristol if you want to say it with snails, or cats..or leaves, I think they are £8/£9.

How do you like them apples?

I found this thing I did years ago using light sensitive paper. At the time I was really into the idea of finding an apple tree and sticking little letter stickers made of fablon to all the unripe apples - each apple saying something diiferent. When the apples had ripened and changed colour you would peel of the fablon and the text would still be green or whatever, and it would look brill. I will do this one day!

A while ago Penguin were producing books with blank covers so you could decorate your own. I love this idea! I made this for my friend Tom....the book has nothing to do with balloons though, I was just really into them at the time..

I've been asked for 5 random facts about myself by Milla, so here goes..

1. I was called after my Grandma Alys, she was called after a heroine from a book, I wish I knew what the book was. I was nearly called Phoebe after my Mum's best cat.
2. My Grandad Bert made the Queen's wedding cake - I remember him teaching me how to make sugar roses and marzipan fruits.
3. I lived in Ireland as a kid, and learnt Irish at school, all I can remember now is how to ask if I can please go to the toilet.
4. I was on an episode of Playschool when I was 3, we got filmed crossing the Mersey on a ferry...through the square widow (naturally).
5. Everyday I think how lucky I am to have such lovely family and friends
